Mardi Gras Gnome
Celebrate Mardi Gras with this festive gnome. He is all decked out in traditional Mardi Gras colors and he is ready celebrate Fat Tuesday. He is handmade with care and attention to detail. He has a wooden nose and a frosted purple faux fur beard. His body is made of purple felt, weighted at the bottom and filled with poly-fil. His tall hat is green, gold and purple striped with a Mardi Gras embellishment. Mardi Grad beads complete his festive ensemble. He stands approximately 10.5” tall as posed in the pictures. Once a year New Orleans descends into a flurry of chaos, crowds, and colorful masks as the city celebrates Mardi Gras– the last day of the Carnival celebration. Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday as it’s also known, is the Christian feasting period before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday. The traditional colors of the festival are purple which represents justice, green which represents faith and gold which represents power.
A Swedish gnome or Tomte is a small elf like creature who takes up residence near or under a house. He protects the farmers home, crops and children from misfortune. He has a reputation for being hard working and often mischievous.
